Ukraine was the birthplace of the Slavic East. Kiev was the ancient city of the east that’s greatness rivaled Byzantium. Ukrainian Princes and Princesses ruled a civilization referred to as the third Rome. After a 300 year golden age, Ukraine was absorbed into Russia. However, the culture and language survived. After numerous courageous liberation attempts, Ukrainians got their dream in 1991. Further in 2005 the world saw the courage of the Ukrainians again, when they peacefully stood up for their freedom.
