The best way to make a raisin sauce is as follows:
- Start it with a 1/4 stick of butter or lard (lard is not that bad for you as it is saturated fat and this does not go rancid under heat, do not believe it that lard is bad). The thing about butter is it gets smokey under heat.
- Add about a tablespoon of flour.
- Use a wooden spoon to stir it and make it pasty.
- Next add soup broth – I make my own or you can use instant as long as it is not these MSG type. It can be a few cups. If you do not know how to make this or need more guidance just ask.
- Next add a handful of crushed almonds
- A handful of dark raisins.
- Squeeze one half a lemon.
- One teaspoon of sugar
- Three cloves and a pinch of cinnamon.
- Between your hands crush rye bread in crust or toast in to thicken it a little more.
- Next add-on teaspoon of horseradish.
- I know this sauce recipe sounds crazy but it is both it taste good you will see, it is Russian cooking. If not write me Mark personally and complain.
Russians use raisins in many Russian pastry recipes or generally as sugar cane is does not grow in Russia, is a northern country. Honey of course is the national sweeter.
