Herring is big in Baltic sea. This is why in Russian and Polish cooking your will find many herring recipes. In my opinion the Baltic is clean. The beaches I have been on a white a clean as was the water. I think Baltic herring is good. Ok here is the Russian cream of herring soup recipe.
Ingredients:
4 herrings (soaked in water to remove salt)
2 cups of milk
2 cups of water
1 onion
salt and black pepper
1. Chop the onion, put it aside and cut herrings in small pieces.
2. Place milk, water, onion, salt and pepper in a saucepan, and boil for 10 minutes.
3. Add herrings and cook until tender.
You can modify consistency of the soup with 2 potatoes. Cook them with water and milk. After adding herrings, blend everything together.
Herring of course has great Omega 3, however, and lots of amino acids. So eat some herring soup everyday.
