  • I have one believe it or not. I have to be more active in posting these pierogi recipes.

  • Having recently moved from Chicago area where one could find decent pierogies I am now living in northern minnesota where most people don’t even know what they are. I refuse to buy mrs t’s. I am going to try to make some of these myself. Cabbage, or cabbage and mushroom. Wish me luck

  • I love making Pierogi and cabbage is one of my favorite ingredients. Let me know how they turn out.

Good Luck making your pierogis. You’ll do just fine. I’m not Polish, but have Polish family members and LOVE the food. They’re easy to make.
By any chance, do you or anyone, know what the Polish herb “vagata” is, and where I can buy it?
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you very much.

  • You can get it anywhere in Poland. But I do not recommend it. I think it has tons of MSG. Its not a Polish herb. If you use tons of vegetables it will be better. It is a cheap bullion powder. There are better more natural ones made by Bio Oaza. They make a natural quality form of this. You can check greektrade.com.pl – This is what we use.

  • Thank you so much for the information! I was told it was an herb, or a root, something similar to a parsnip.
    In any case, thank you.

  • That information was right from my wife who is the real master Polish cook in the house. She grew up in the Polish countryside. I basically moved to Poland for the cooking.

I totally agree with you about making pierogi, as a healing venture.
I also work with computers whole day, and working in my kitchen or my garden is a totally awesome healing process.
I am of Ukrainian decent, born in Poland, living in the USA (slightly opposite to your situation).
    I enjoyed reading your post.

  • Wow where were you born in Poland? Where are you from in Ukraine? I might be moving back to the USA for a while. Pierogi dough is great for your hands and relaxing and if you have grand kids they can play with the dough.

I was born in Southern Poland, close to Jaroslaw, but lived in the US since early teen years.
