I love Caviar. I lived in Poland and was lucky that I could have caviar sandwiches now and then. In fact one of the best things about living in Eastern Europe is the Russian Caviar on bread. It is cheap and accessible. Did you know some people advocate a caviar diet for weight loss. I think it is hard to gain weight on caviar. I might have to try it.
I think you can lose weight with caviar and it has all the essential fatty acids and some nucleic acids also along with protein and antioxidants so it is not a bad base. I think you first have to clean your fridge and cabinets then buy a few cans before you start or you will be tempted. Then learn to make meals with toast and eggs and salads with them. Or in this
The way you make a caviar sandwich with it is this way:
Buy natural cavair, either imitation from a plant source or something from a fresh North American or Icelandic waters. I do not buy Russian caviar and do not even know if you can get it anymore.
Brands of caviar I recommend:
- Nothing too smokey or salty or with msg. Smoked caviar will ruin th flavor.
- Roland black lumfish caviar
- Black Capelin from Iceland
- Bemka red roe is good
- Any Alaskan red salmon roe as long as it is not smoked
- Any cheap store brand if you can not afford it as long as it does not have MSG
- I prefer the red cariar
- The traditional way to make it is with toasted squares the roe on top.
- The traditional Russian way with a twist is to add lemon and chopped onion on toast.
- The American version is make a normal sandwich with two slices of bread, something quality from the deli. But this time a bacon, lettuce and tomato and caviar mixed with a dressing like cesar or blue cheese together with caviar added as a flavor or accent to a BLT. I like this the best as am American, the others are too rich for my blood.
- Jewish caviar sandwich is non-toasted bagel with cream cheese and caviar on the top with some green garnish at the very top. Three is a debate if Jews can eat caviar based on the scales of the fish. I think except for very strict diets rules, most eat them.
I think caviar sandwiches are fast, easy and taste great. I do not worry about the cholesterol as most cholesterol is manufactured by your own body and found in your brain, it is only excess blood cholesterol which is usually connected with high sugar intact that counts. I just do not like it if it is too salty. Again I prefer the American version. I lived in Eastern Europe for ten years and like a fusion of Eastern European and American that is light and healthy, rather than the American basic fast food or Russian overly salted/smoked rustic. Which one sounds th best for you?
