Mnemonics and language learning
Go back 3000 years, to the ancient Greece. In this rocky land of small city states, most no larger than 10,000 people – there was an explosive growth in culture. Two techniques which made the Greek culture flourish was the Socratic method of teaching. The Second was mnemonics.
Mnemonics techniques were developed for everything. A story teller could recite Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey. Polyglots were common.
The most effective technique for learning languages that you can use is linkword mnemonics. That is connecting the rhythm of the target foreign word with a funny or strange equivalent sounding word and story in your own language. Mnemonics is the fastest way to learn vocabulary and have it stick to my memory.
Instead of learning 10 words a day you can learn 200 words a day or more with menmonics.
