    • Polish is a great language. If you are Polish you can get a Polish green card you know. Even if it was your grandpa. I will let you know when all is ready. The flashcards will be first.

  • Sorry for the ignorant question- how far back can I go in my family tree and still get a Polish green card? I have death records proving my ancestors on my mother’s side were born in Poland, but we’re looking at my great-great grandparents, people who came over in the late 19th/early 20th Century. Too long ago?

    • You can get a Polish green card basically if you can prove with good documents like birth certificates etc that you are ethnically Polish. You need to work hard to put a good case together. But for me, I did it and I am happy I did and not I am a citizen. I think if you have documents this is OK. But remember there was no Poland at the time. So you will have to do your homework and make a case. But do it, I moved to Poland, its a great country.

  • As foreigner in the UK, I doubt, you can learn polish or any other foreign language just in a week. It takes much longer. The language I am writing this post is my second language…
It would be recommended to visit a school in Poland. And also very patiently people/friends around you who explain and correct you specially in the beginning. If you want to communicate more than baby-speak.
You should know basics of the grammar. And I can tell you, german is very complicate, but east europeans are 1 level higher. English is quite easy. I tried to learn croatian a number of years ago. Was not too bad, I tried to teach myself. But I was in need of books, lessons and a structure to get basics that I just had to learn new words.
Once I was told by a polish girl in Germany, that her language is very complicate, and I believed her.

The aim is to think in this foreign language. You must turn off your first language and start talking and thinking in the other language. Otherwise it doesn’t work. While writing english I don’t think in german. If I translated word by word, I wouldn’t be able to follow what anybody is trying to tell me. And so it must be for Polish, Croatian, Frensh or whatever you like.

    • Some people do well with schools. It is a very traditional way. The people I know who have learned a language have accumulated a large number of vocabulary words (not phrases) in a short time. They were fanatics. After that they learned to use it. Master a language takes a lot of patience and setting your expectations low. However, I do think if you focus on words, rather than traditional methods you will get off the ground faster.
You need to have a base of vocabulary before you can start manipulating that vocab with grammar.

  • I find it kind of funny seeing you so enthusiastic about my native language :D

    Pozdrawiam,
    Malwina

  • LearnFast Polish and Poilsh as the language of expression

WoW. It’s so nice to see so many people tyring to learn Polish. I’m really impressed about that. there’s one thing i want to say for forgeiners my native language is not difficult but only a bit coplicated. When you’ll speak more and more it’ll become easy. Polish language is a languge of better expression of for example feelings than many other languages. You can say in uncoutable ways to say the same thing and we’ve got many words describing the same thing. For UK’s people- don’t think that Polish has f.ex. one word with many meanings. that’s not true.
If you want i can help somebody with leaning this language with pleasure. Come and live in Płock. It’s really bautiful city.
