You need to keep reviewing and using these words. You could write them on a large wall calender that you will see the words, all of them, or you could try to cumulatively review them weekly. Or try to activate them with games so you will not forget or start reading and you will see them as you read.

Do you remember your first "words of the day" after a month or two? I've tried this method with some English words that were very difficult for me to memorize and I found that learning without repetition is rather ineffective. It's essential to come back to a word from time to time and then, the brain will “keep” it.

Poor metaphor, why? a professional bodybuilder is elite, while to speak a language at any level does not mean you will be a poet, but rather you can communicate. Maybe it is more like running 1 mile a day, you will be in better condition than most people out there, or going to the gym for 1 hour. Really poor metaphor. How many languages have you learned as an adult?

Learning 1 word a day and expecting to learn a language in 3 years is about as logical as doing 5 press ups a day and expecting to become a a bodybuilder in 3 years.
