1 responses to Ukraine not the Ukraine

  • “The Ukraine” is improper. It was a term used to describe a region of the Soviet Union, when it was a Union. I am not sure whether it was ever used internally to USSR, but I know the people of Ukarine do not use it. Other terms that are along the same lines are ‘the “stans” referring to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and “the Baltics”.
