One further hint with regards to teaching languages abroard is consider not just your wage but PPP that is your purchasing power in the country where you teach languages. If you do not know what this is or do not want to be confused by economic speak, the economist online has a big mac index which is a quick rule of the measure of PPP in various counties. This will help you determine the real value of your earnings if you are considering teaching languages abroad.

I believe that it all depends on the size of organisation you work for and your experience in language teaching.
When I first applied for a teaching position in this country I was interested in more than just the monthly salary. I wanted to work for an organisation that offered health insurance, a working visa, a return ticket if I fulfilled my contract and accomodation.
If it is just money a person is looking for then I think people may be disappointed in the money offered by local language centres unless they work for the British Council! This is probably the only place I know of that pays big bucks! I could be wrong.
