Convert square meters to square feet
Do you want to convert square meters to square feet? I am an American living in Europe (not in London, but Krakow, Poland) and the most useful thing when converting the metric system to the English system of measure are rules of thumb.
When you have a rule of thumb, you can take it anywhere and use it anywhere. If you use a calculator every time you want to convert a sq meter to a sq foot than it is not as convenient.
The most obvious reason why you need to know how this is to measure a unit of area when you are looking for an apartment or evaluating a plaza. It is commonly referred to as cost per square foot or cost per square metre. With this rule, you can to compare prices of flats back home to Europe lets say. It is hard to feel what 50 square meters is if you are use to the English system.
Basically any real estate whether for sale or for rent is evaluated on price per square foot or metre (British spelling). It makes not sense to look at a unit at the over all price, you need to evaluate the rent or purchase price in relation to the sq m price or rent and how that compares to the apartments in the same neighborhood.

Square meters to square feet
Sq mt to sq ft rule of thumb
Here is my rule of thumb for converting. Take the measure in square metres and multiply it by ten. Therefore, a flat that is 50 square meters flat is about 500 square feet. The reality 1 square meter = 10.7639104 square feet so this is not exact formula, but it is very close.
Here is a table that might be useful:
square meters to square feet
30 322
40 431
50 538
75 807
100 1076
150 1615
200 2153
sq m to sq ft
The rest you can extrapolate.
A typical apartment for a single person expat is about 50 meters, for a couple about 75 meters and for a family it is about 100 meters plus in Europe. Prices in Europe are very pricey. I think Americans are use to a much larger scale for living, however, in European cities there is more culture and for Americans life is very interesting. In Eastern Europe it is a little on the smaller size and in Western Europe perhaps a little larger. But really cities like Paris are no value any more.
The word metre comes from the Greek word which literally means to measure, it is based on the International system of measure or SI. It is ten million meters from the equator to the north pole (running through Paris of course as a Frenchman devised this system.
A square meter is the area of a square whose side equal one meter. m2 is the symbol.
A square foot is from the imperial unit / U.S. customary unit of measure and is used in the US, Canada and the UK.
Therefore, in summary, the rule of thumb I use for the square meters to feet conversion is simply multiply the number times ten.
