Slovakia to the Euro
In theory currency should not have any affect on prices as prices are determined by supply and demand. However, many vacationing Polish people are reporting back to me that the prices for skiiing and rooms have increased 50% since January 1st when Slovakia went on the Euro. I can not believe that, or at least income maybe also increased. However, other people are reporting that Slovaks are crossing the Polish boarder to buy cheaper Polish goods.
Poland and the Euro
Poland is being conservative and waiting until 2011 for the Euro, as 2012 they host the Euro cup. Futher Poland will have laws that will give merchants a fine if they increase prices.
Even though I am free market its quite ok that Poland, like the UK retains its own curreny for a while. Eventually it will make it easier if the are on the Euro, but there is no great need to do it today. Poland can retain some contol over its monetary policy during the financial crisis.
