Plants communicate to warn against danger
Plant communication is no longer about talking to your plants to help them grow, rather, they seem to talk to each other. Of course not like animal life, however, they have a network of communication to convey important information. This bold statement is actually based on a study in the October Journal Oecologia.
How plant communication works
Through communication paths known as runners—horizontal stems that physically bond the plants like cables along the soil surface and underground. These runners convey information to warn plants of potential predators, such as caterpillars.
Caterpillars will be less likely to eat damaged plants. Therefore the plants grew unusual vertical stems when they have been warned of impending danger. This in a sense is their star wars defense system. If one plant is attacked then it warms the other plants to upgrade their chemical defense and divery energy used for growth, and now use it for a quick defense build up. This is one example of of plants communicate.
