Scottish highlands in the Appalachian mountains
Did you know that many of the southerners, especially in the Appalachian Mountains still have words and accents that are connected to their origins? That is the Scottish highlands. Its amazing if you go down to the back parts you can still almost hear this accent.

The accent most used in Eastern Tennessee, Southeastern Kentucky, Southwestern Virginia; and Western North Carolina…comes from immigrants (sic) of Scotland, and Ireland to the places in the “New World” that made them think most of the homes they left behind.
Also in the mix is French ancestry; who came into the land through Southern Florida and through what is now Lousiana. Bring their already mangled mixology of “Arcadian-French”.
Most decendants in these areas have vocal patterns that can be tracked back to these early American influences.
