Learn a language with Lord of the rings
I am an American living in Poland and I have learned Polish on my own. One of the things I am considering doing to improve my Polish is listening to the audio book version of Lord of the rings. That is, Elves, and Hobbits and language learning. I think its about 100 hours of well recorded Polish, for about 10 dollars if you go to a Kiosk or about 30 from Empik.
Just listening to a language is a great way to learn. How do you learn a language? Listen. This is how children learn, they listen for about two years before they try to form real sentences.
If anyone has improved their language skills in a similar way let me know.
Learning with fantasy literature
As I am also reading Narnia in Polish one of the problems I have is the vocabulary is specific to fantasy books, Its about magical amulets and teletransportation. So I am learning a lot of strange words to say the least. But the positive side is if I pull these words out in normal conversation, I impress people.
