Kurgan
The Kurgan people are considered the Proto-Indo-European speaking people who lived in Southern Russian beginning in the 5th millennium BC. During the 3rd millennium BC The Indo-European languages began to diverge and form precursors to Proto-Slavic, Proto-Germanic, Proto-Indo-Iranian, etc.
Other theories put the origins of a unified linguistic Indo European culture about the 9th millennium BC but the archeological is to scant to support this theory.
Kurgan burial
The Kurgans are a different discussion all in themselves with ‘pit burial’, domestication of horses and chariots and very interesting and speculative customs.
Kurgan and Poles
Genetically the Poles have the highest concentration of the Kurgan gene at about 65% with the Swedes coming in second. For 100 dollars national geographic has a genetic test that will trace one line of genetics back 50 thousand years. I have not done this but I think its all-very interesting. People find they are a mix of genes that totally surprises them. I have a passion for languages and archeology so for me this is interesting. I do not care about the genetic side as much as the linguistic, religious archeological site. What was the language of the ancient people of your past, and who were their prophets.
Kurgan people
For most people in Europe I think the Kurgan’s were a start. I have always wondered if I were transported back into a time machine, how hard it would be to learn this Indo European language and what did it sound like to the ear.
