Dating and language
Dating someone from another country and language learning. When I first moved to Poland many girls wanted to meet me, usually for coffee. At first I thought this was the ‘Hollywood effect’ from beginning from the states. Foreigners are always interested in exotic people from other countries and they are treat a little bit like a movie star. I have seen, normal guys that are ex pats with girls that they would only be with if they looked like Brad Pitt in the States. The same applies to girls. But latter I realized girls wanted to meet me not because I was so charming, rather they wanted to meet me at a coffee shop once a week and talk politics and other current subjects. It was funny as after a while I realized they did not want to meet me outside the coffee shop.
It was basically free English conversation lessons, something which I got paid for normally. Once you know a little more of the language and get wise, its more of a level playing field. Eventually you will even lose a bit of your ‘Hollywood effect’ as you begin to dress and look a little more local.
If you meet someone that you could love than everything changes. It is a different set of dynamics and real language learning motivation. Eighty-nine percent of the time you will speak the guys, not the girl’s language in the relationship. Why this is true is for a lot of reasons. Mostly because English is easy and girls have a passion for language conversation. However, if you convey to your other that you want to learn the other persons language, it helps. Most guys I know wind up taking lesson in addition to the relationship and practice with their girlfriends what they learned during their language lessons. What eventually happens is you speak both languages mixed together.
I also have a site on love and relationships.

And a question : “How many languages do you speak ?” becomes tricky question.
How many languages do you speak, in Europe most people speak 1.5. That is their own and English to some degree, but some with a passion for languages speak I would say on average four.
source quote on 89%
I would love to know where you got the information for this:
Eighty-nine percent of the time you will speak the guys, not the girl’s language in the relationship.
I’d like to cite it in a research paper, please contact me.
Thanks
Source, I lived in Europe for ten years and never once did I see in all hundreds of relationships between Americans, British and Europeans was there another language spoken at home over English as the primary language at home. I am fluent in Polish basically, yet we speak English at home with some Polish. It depends on the country and langugae I guess. But much of the world speaks English as a second language, although me and my expat friends love speaking our learned language, I would not say we speak it as the primary language.
Foreigners have a huge advantage over Americans in that they learn a foreign language (English) early on in school.
Now, that being said, the question is who goes and explores the world and marries foreigners? In my experiences I have known one or two women marrying foreign guys. On the other hand, think of all the dating sites that men marry foreigner brides. I know scores of American and British guys that have sworn off American women. I mean lets be honest, can you honestly tell me you date American women? It is just a question.
